Quality assurance encompasses several aspects of the manufacturing process. It involves the collection of manufacturing data and the interpretation of this data, along with presenting the quality information so that is can be understood and acted upon.

Good quality control software, such as statistical control software, should be completely configurable to meet a manufacturer's specifications. It should be capable of connection to a wide variety of measurement devices as well as integrated with handheld devices and plant automation.
The latest QC software applications even provide alarming via e-mail or v-mail to plant floor and management personnel when real-time production quality falls below pre-set parameters. The browser-based apps now available also mean that manufacturers can set up quality portals, where customers can simply log-in through an internet connection to view certification data on the products they order.
